GPA and CGPA calculator
Three tools on one page. Work out a semester GPA from your subjects, combine several semesters into a CGPA or convert a CGPA into a percentage and marks for a job or admission form. Choose the tab that matches what you need.
Uses the common 4.0 grade scale and the conversion formulas named below. Calculations run in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server.
What do you need?
Add each subject with its credit hours and the grade you got. Leave the subject name blank if you like.
Enter the GPA of each semester. Add credit hours for an exact CGPA; leave them all blank if every semester carried the same load.
Universities do not all convert the same way. Use the method your university or the form you are filling asks for. Add total marks to see the equivalent obtained marks.

How to use this calculator
- Semester GPA. Add one row per subject. Type the credit hours (usually 1 to 4) and pick the letter grade from your result card. Add more rows with the button.
- CGPA. Add one row per semester with that semester's GPA. If you know each semester's credit hours, add them for an exact answer; if all semesters carried the same load you can leave them blank.
- CGPA to percentage. Type your CGPA, pick the scale (4.0 or 5.0) and the conversion method your university or the form asks for. Add the total marks if a form wants obtained marks as well.
How GPA is calculated
Each grade carries grade points, and each subject is weighted by its credit hours. Multiply the points by the credit hours for every subject, add those up and divide by the total credit hours:
GPA = Σ(grade points × credit hours) ÷ Σ(credit hours)
A 4 credit hour subject therefore moves your GPA twice as much as a 2 credit hour one. A B in a heavy subject can pull the average down more than a C in a light one.
How CGPA is calculated
CGPA is the same idea one level up. Each semester's GPA is weighted by the credit hours of that semester. If every semester had the same load, the weights cancel out and CGPA is simply the average of your semester GPAs.
Your transcript is always the final word. Repeated courses, improved grades and pass or fail subjects are handled differently by different universities and this calculator cannot know those rules.
The common 4.0 grade scale
| Grade | Grade points |
|---|---|
| A+ / A | 4.00 |
| A- | 3.67 |
| B+ | 3.33 |
| B | 3.00 |
| B- | 2.67 |
| C+ | 2.33 |
| C | 2.00 |
| C- | 1.67 |
| D+ | 1.33 |
| D | 1.00 |
| F | 0.00 |
Most universities in Pakistan and many abroad use these points. The marks needed for each letter differ from one university to the next, so check your own grading policy if a grade looks off.
CGPA to percentage: two methods
Simple method. Divide your CGPA by the scale and multiply by 100. On a 4.0 scale, 3.2 becomes 80%. This is what most job portals and many forms mean when they ask for a percentage.
HEC tiered formula (2018). A conversion sheet dated 30 November 2018, circulated by universities for HEC equivalence, uses a different straight line for each band of CGPA. For example, a CGPA of 3.63 or above converts as (CGPA − 0.3) ÷ 0.037, so 3.63 gives 90%, while 2.5 gives 60%. Results are close to the simple method near the top and differ more in the middle. The 5.0 scale version shifts every band up by one point.
Neither method is universal. If a form or an employer names a formula, use that one. If you are applying abroad, the receiving institution usually converts your transcript itself.
CGPA to marks
Some forms ask for obtained marks rather than a percentage. Once you have the percentage, multiply it by the total marks and divide by 100. With 80% and a total of 4,000 marks, the equivalent is 3,200. Add the total in the box and the calculator does this for you.
Check with your university. Grade points, credit rules and conversion formulas vary between institutions. Use this for planning and form filling, and rely on your official transcript and your university's own policy where they differ.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate my GPA?
Multiply the grade points of each subject by its credit hours, add the results and divide by the total credit hours. A on a 3 credit subject is 12 quality points; B+ on a 4 credit subject is 13.32. Together that is 25.32 over 7 credit hours, a GPA of 3.62.
How do I convert CGPA to percentage?
The simple method is CGPA divided by the scale, times 100: 3.4 out of 4 is 85%. Some universities and HEC equivalence use a tiered formula that gives a slightly different figure. Use the method your form or university asks for.
What is the HEC formula for CGPA to percentage?
The 2018 conversion sheet used for HEC equivalence splits CGPA into bands with a separate formula for each. For 3.63 and above on a 4.0 scale it is (CGPA minus 0.3) divided by 0.037. The calculator applies every band for you when you choose the HEC tiered option.
What is the difference between GPA and CGPA?
GPA is for one semester. CGPA, the cumulative GPA, combines all semesters so far, weighted by their credit hours.
How do I convert CGPA to marks?
Convert to a percentage first, then multiply by the total marks and divide by 100. At 80% with 4,000 total marks the equivalent is 3,200 marks.
Is 3.0 CGPA good?
A 3.0 out of 4.0 is a B average and meets the common minimum for many jobs, scholarships and postgraduate admissions in Pakistan. Competitive programs often look for 3.3 to 3.5 or higher.
